PTSD and Jigsaw Puzzles. Connecting the Pieces.

There's a lot of talk about PTSD, Stress Disorders, and ADHD in the news today.  It seems that more and more people are being diagnosed with these disorders, almost at an alarming rate, and I was curious to find out why and what could be done about it.  In my many readings and in search for information, I found a common link---jigsaw puzzles!  Who would have ever thought?

It seems that more and more people are being diagnosed with PTSD these days.  I can tell you that I've seen it firsthand and can understand just a little about PTSD.

On my way home from making puzzles one day, I came across an accident that still occasionally shakes me out of a sound sleep.  I take a series of dirt roads home (yes, they still exist!) and they save me about 20 minutes of travel time, which I desperately need.  While driving down this very scenic road during a hectic Christmas Season, I happened to be talking on the phone with one of my Puzzle Princesses (I was on Bluetooth.)  I stopped the conversation suddenly when I saw a car about 100 yards in front of me upside down and in the center of the lane.  At first, I didn't comprehend what I was seeing because it seemed so surreal.  The radio was playing very loud, the tires on the car were still spinning even though they were up in the air, but there was something in the road on the other side of the car that held my attention.  It was the driver who had been ejected.

Now I am not one to panic easily and consider myself good in situations where someone needs help and or medical attention.  For some reason, this one shook me to the core.  The driver did not make it despite all efforts.  This accident still plays in my head at times when I pass a bad accident scene.  I often wonder about the young woman's family and still do the sign of the cross when I pass her memorial.

It's been a few years since this happened but today reminded me again of how PTSD plays a part with jigsaw puzzles.  I read an article on how Jigsaw Puzzles saved some who had PTSD.  It is a great article an one that I feel needs sharing.

I hope that you find this as helpful as I did!  For Guys With Anxiety, Stress, and PTSD, Jigsaw Puzzles Are More Than Just A Game.
